Spelman College recently joined Westside Future Fund (WFF) to celebrate the restoration of a historic Vine City property at 220 Sunset Avenue and announced a transformational new partnership.

The property, once home to one of Atlanta’s most influential families, will now provide deeply affordable rental housing and a structured pathway to homeownership for Spelman College faculty and staff.

Last month, 85 Historically Black College and University students from across the country competed in Spelman College’s third annual HBCU Game Jam.

Hosted by Spelman’s Innovation Lab, the Game Jam is a beginner-friendly 24-hour hackathon competition where students engage in rapid game development to create the best video game.

Attention, Spelman faculty and staff! We are excited to invite you to celebrate and honor the incredible achievements of the Class of 2025 by serving as a Faculty/Staff Volunteer during Reunion and Commencement Weekend, taking place May 16-18, 2025.

This is a special opportunity to engage with students, families, alumnae and colleagues as we come together to create a memorable and seamless experience for our graduates. Your participation is vital to the success of this important milestone, and we welcome volunteers in numerous roles throughout the weekend’s events.

Volunteers are especially needed to facilitate the following:

- Offsite Parking Attending
- Elder Care (Water, seating)
- Coordination of the various classes
- Golf Cart Driving
- ADA folks
- Need an ADA Plan
- Class Photos
- Class Meetings
- March Through the Alumnae Arch
- Golden Girl Tea

A variety of disciplines were on display during the 36th annual Research Day as students conducted oral, film, poster exhibits and performance presentations and celebrated a year of research and hard work.

An estimated 1,500 people attended the campus-wide event, including 410 presenters and judges.

In observance of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Spelman College held its third annual Atlanta University Center "Protect the Culture" Sexual Health Summit on April 8.

This collaborative event was organized by the AUC Title IX offices, the Violence Prevention & Intervention (VP&I) Program, the AUCC Student Health & Wellness Center and B Brand. The two-day event entailed a panel discussion and sexual health fairs on each of the AUC campuses.

Lighting designer Kathy A. Perkins visited Spelman College's Rockefeller Arts Building, Baldwin Burroughs Theatre on Thursday, April 17.

Great work, Iyabo! Alumna and former math and physics teacher Iyabo Pommells, C'2005, was recently highlighted by Bytes Europe for her work with the Chicago Pre-College Science and Engineering Program (also known as ChiS&E), a nonprofit that offers enrichment classes on Saturdays and in the summer for historically underrepresented students to pique and motivate their interest in careers in science.

Pommells holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan and a mathematics degree from Spelman College.
