Spelman Student Awarded Opportunity Scholarship: Economics major Nia Phipps, C'2024, was recently named a recipient of the 2023 Milliman, Inc. Opportunity Scholarship. Now in its seventh year, the program was created to assist students from racial and ethnic groups that are underrepresented in the fields of actuarial science, data science, computer science, economics, programming, mathematics, statistics, data analytics or finance.

Audre Lorde invited Black women to investigate hate, love, silence, language, malignity, community and work as a precursor to our acceptance of our own necessary power. How would we "talk back" to Lorde nearly 50 years after the publication of "Litany For Survival" and "The Transformation of Silence Into Language and Action?"

You're invited! Morehouse School of Medicine invites Spelman students, faculty and staff to attend the 2024 Daniel S. Blumenthal, MD, MPH Public Health Symposium on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 12 to 5 p.m. at Atlanta Technical College, Dennard Conference Center, 1560 Metropolitan Parkway SW, Atlanta GA, 30310.

The 2024 symposium theme is Conversations and Action Strategies to Advance Mental and Behavioral Health Equity and Justice. The event will feature poster presentations, a career fair, panel discussions and breakout sessions.

Join the conversation! Spelman students are invited to attend a special conversation with Undersecretary of State Uzra Zeya on Monday, April 8, 2024, from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. in the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby, Ed.D. Academic Center Auditorium. Zeya is an American diplomat who has served as the Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights in the Biden Administration since July 2021.

This guest speaker is hosted by John Eaves, Ph.D., as part of his American Foreign Policy class. Students of all disciplines are encouraged to attend. Registration is not required for this event.

Attention, Spelman students! Ally Financial and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund are hosting the sixth Moguls in the Making HBCU pitch competition in Detroit this fall. Ten teams with five students each will be chosen, representing 10 of the nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
