Spelman College students Alexandra Nelson, C’2025, and Raven Herring, C’2026, were recently named 2024 White House HBCU Scholars by the White House Initiative on Educational Equity, Excellence and Economic Development through Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). The initiative recognizes scholars who have not only exhibited outstanding academic prowess but have also shown a profound dedication to serving and leading within their communities.

The Spelmanites were among 110 students from 77 HBCUs across the nation who were selected for their exceptional academic achievements, leadership potential and dedication to their communities.

The wait is over! From August 23 through December 7, 2024, Spelman College Museum of Fine Art presents Ming Smith: Feeling the Future the first solo exhibition of photographer Ming Smith in Atlanta and at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).

This exhibition is a selection of Ming Smith's work from the 1970s to the present and presents photographs that are in conversation with each other across time and space and showcases Smith’s expansive use of lens-based media.

Great work, Michelle!
Spelman College alumna Michelle Cooke, M.D., C'2007, recently relocated her medical practice to East Point, Georgia. Dr. Cooke initially opened her practice in 2023 20 years after coming to Atlanta from Boston to attend Spelman College.
