Spelman College recently joined the STARS (Small Town and Rural Students) College Network — a coalition of 32 of the nation’s most prominent institutions dedicated to ensuring students from rural and small-town America have the support they need to enroll and graduate from the college or university of their choice.
As one of 16 new member schools, Spelman will combine its own resources with STARS philanthropy to support pipeline programs and recruiting efforts, as well as offering financial aid and on-campus programs to support students from rural areas.
It's almost time! Spelman’s faculty and staff look forward to welcoming the Class of 2028 during New Student Orientation (NSO) August 14 – 20, 2024.
First-year students and their families will experience a full line-up of NSO events prepared just for them, and prior to the welcome back for all returning students.
Get ready, Spelmanites! The first day of classes is August 21, 2024.
Mark your calendars! From August 23 through December 7, 2024, Spelman College Museum of Fine Art presents Ming Smith: Feeling the Future —the first solo exhibition of photographer Ming Smith in Atlanta and at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).
This exhibition is a selection of Ming Smith's work from the 1970s to the present and presents photographs that are in conversation with each other across time and space and showcases Smith’s expansive use of lens-based media.
Congratulations, Michelle! Spelman College alumna Michelle Tarver, C'95, was recently named the acting director of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, effective July 28, 2024.
Most recently, Tarver worked in CDRH’s Office of Surveillance and Biometrics and the Office of Device Evaluation before becoming deputy director of the office of strategic partnerships and technology innovation.
