Faculty & Staff Highlights

Great work, Karen! Karen Comer Lowe has spent three years as curator-in-residence of the Spelman Museum of Fine Art, during which time she has helped organize exhibitions like Black American Portraits and Ming Smith: Feeling the Future.

While it has been a remarkable run, the newly unveiled We Say What Black This Is will be Comer Lowe’s last as curator-in-residence.

Congratulations, Dr. Johnson!
Kevin P. Johnson, Ph.D., associate professor of music and director of the Spelman College Glee Club, recently debuted the "Hip-Hop Mass" a new musical blending contemporary hip-hop music and catholic liturgy.

Dr. Johnson's latest project consists of 24 songs in the order of a mass and includes choreography, liturgical dance and even a depiction of the Eucharistic Prayer.

Well done, Spelmanites! Congratulations to Dulciana Davis, C’2025, Kaia Hall, C’2026, Hailey Jones, C’2025, and Jessica Sakyi, C’2025, for recently leading Spelman’s Honda Campus All-Star Challenge Team to victory at the National Qualifying Tournament. Their first-place win at Dillard University secures their spot at the HCASC National Championship in L.A. this April!

The Spelman Innovation Team is excited to announce the 2025 HBCU Game Jam happening Friday, March 28 - Sunday, March 30, 2025!

The 2025 HBCU Game Jam will host HBCUs from all over the country to compete in teams of four building their own video games to win industry-sponsored prizes.

This will be a 24 hour hackathon, providing the opportunity to introduce students to the game development process, collaborate and network with students and industry mentors.

Alumnae Highlights

Congratulations, Juanda! Alumna Juanda Roberts, C'2001, was recently profiled by Rolling Out for the growth of her business, Princess Hair Pizzazz, a luxury children’s hair salon that has expanded to four locations across Metro Atlanta in just five years.

With her background in technology consulting and a degree in computer science from Spelman College, Roberts approached the challenge with both analytical precision and creative vision.
