Student coders from Spelman College recently displayed their tech prowess and masterful presentation skills to take the top prize at the 9th Annual Black Enterprise BE Smart Hackathon hosted by American Airlines.

The Spelman team, Protege, comprised of seniors Brianna Bray, A’laysia Miller-Chambliss, Morgan Lee, and Jasmine Singleton, C'2025, used the entire 24 hours allowed to develop every aspect to ultimately win the judging.

Held in Charlotte, North Carolina for the first time, the team ranked among the "best of the best" among the event’s largest gathering to date: 205 students from 30 historically Black colleges and universities nationwide.

Mark your calendars! The Spelman College Glee Club invites you to celebrate its 100 year anniversary and the 98th Annual Christmas Carol Concert presented with the Morehouse College Glee Club.

Each performance is free and open to the public. Spelman will host two concerts at Sisters Chapel, beginning with "A Taste of Christmas" – a one-hour sampling of favorites from the 98th Annual Spelman & Morehouse Christmas Carol Concert – on December 3, at 11:00 a.m.

On Friday, December 6, at 7:30 p.m., Morehouse College will host a Christmas Carol Concert performance in the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel.

Spelman will host a Christmas Carol Concert performance on Saturday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Sisters Chapel.

On Sunday, December 8, Morehouse College will host the final Christmas Carol Concert performance at 6 p.m. in the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel.

Traditionally marking the official start of the Christmas season for Atlanta residents, these glee clubs will perform together (and individually) featuring traditional carols and contemporary-style interpretations of various holiday music.

Welcome, Professor Lynch! Spelman College is pleased to welcome award-winning filmmaker Shola Lynch as a Diana King Endowed Professor in Film, Filmmaking, Television, & Related Media and the director of the documentary film program in the Department of Art and Visual Culture.

Prior to joining Spelman, Lynch served as the Curator of the Moving Image & Recorded Sound Division of the New York Public Library’s Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture for over 10 years. In 2016, she became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

UNCF is excited to announce its inaugural 80th Anniversary Capture the Culture Photo Contest Scholarship.

Three (3) winning students will be selected to receive a $10,000 scholarship, which will be paid directly to their school for the upcoming academic year. UNCF will also conduct a second round of the contest in the spring semester to select three (3) additional winners.

The contest is open to all full-time students at any of our UNCF-member institutions. Submissions must be received by December 20, 2024. Winners will be announced January 27, 2025.

There's still time to apply! Applications are open for the 2025 A.T.I. Summer Leadership Training! This groundbreaking 8-week training program offers an unparalleled journey for scholars and sets a new standard for experiential learning.

Backed by the White House’s HBCU Initiative, A.T.I. is an immersive blend of professional development and hands-on experience, including a transformative week in the nation's capital, where participants will engage in the heart of American political and federal systems.

The program is open to students of all academic majors and includes a competitive stipend, housing in the Atlanta University Center (AUC), a meal plan and a fully funded trip to Washington D.C.

To apply, scholars must be a current Sophomore or Junior and maintain a GPA of 2.8 or higher.

The deadline for submission is Monday, December 16, 2024. 
Alumnae Highlights

Alumnae Lacey Reddix, C'2010, and Pilanda Watkins-Curry, C'2011, began to explore the idea of extracting minerals from the sea a few years ago to improve global water security and support supply chains in everything from EV battery production to solar panels.

They named their Richmond, Virginia-based climate tech company Olokun Minerals, with the legend of the deity serving as their north star.
