Campus Highlights

Opening this week! Spelman College Museum of Fine Art is pleased to present We Say What Black This Is, an exhibition showcasing mixed media and watercolor paintings by MacArthur award-winning artist Amanda Williams.

The new exhibit opens Friday and will be on view through May 24, 2025.

The exhibit challenges reductive definitions of Blackness, instead celebrating its diversity, resilience and depth.

Welcome, Dr. McClendon! Spelman College's Center of Excellence for Black Women in STEM has appointed Dr. Natasha McClendon as its new director.

As the new director of the Center of Excellence for Black Women in STEM, Dr. McClendon continues to advocate for advancing and recognizing Black women in the field and research addressing the systemic inequities that persist in STEM and education.

Student Highlights

This week! The AUC is hosting an AUC Passport Fair on Thursday, February 6, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Clark Atlanta University's Thomas W. Cole Exhibition Hall.

This event is open to all students, faculty and staff planning to apply for a passport or to renew a passport. No appointment is necessary, but attendees must have acceptable passport photos to apply.

Mark your calendars! Join the Center for Black Entrepreneurship (CBE) on Wednesday, February 12, at 6 p.m. in Spelman After Dark for an exciting evening of networking, learning and entrepreneurship as we go over all things you need to know to participate and apply to the inaugural New Venture Competition (NVC)!

During this mixer and information session, attendees will have the opportunity to connect with fellow students, form NVC teams, spark new business ideas and meet NVC mentors who will guide you through the competition journey.

Alumnae Highlights

Congratulations, Janetta! Alumna Janetta D. Marbrey, C'75, recently her oath of office in New Jersey as Mercer County Prosecutor. She became only the second African American woman to serve as Mercer County Prosecutor following in the footsteps of Anne Thompson, who held the position from 1975 through 1979.

Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Marbrey earned her bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in secondary education from Spelman College and her law degree from Rutgers University School of Law.
