Notable Announcements
NSO 2023 is finally here! We look forward to welcoming the Class of 2027 for the 2023-2024 academic year during New Student Orientation (NSO). First-year students and their families will experience a full line-up of events and programming designed to celebrate and commemorate their transition to Spelman. The first day of classes is August 16.

Just in time for the new academic year, Spelman College is excited to partner with Bon Appétit to create a new dining experience that reflects the College’s culture of excellence. The dining services program, which serves some of the nations notable and historic colleges and universities, is committed to providing fresh, healthy, high-quality foods that are responsibly sourced.Redesigned dining spaces, new cafeteria menu options, the reopening of Starbucks, and new retail dining options will be available, including Ace Sushi and Black-owned vegan restaurant Slutty Vegan will be available in the Manley Center. A limited menu will also be offered in the Beverly Daniel Tatum Suites dining hall.

Spelman honors the remarkable life and enduring legacy of Dr. Evelyn Boyd Granville, a mathematician who worked with NASA to help safely send some of the first astronauts into space. The second Black woman in the U.S. to receive a doctorate in mathematics, Granville was recognized with an honorary degree from Spelman in 2006.

Congratulations, Mallory! Mallory Butts, C'2025, is one of 10 students to receive the newly launched NMG x FSF Scholarship from Neiman Marcus Group (NMG) and the Fashion Scholarship Fund. NMG awarded 10 scholarships of $10,000 to undergraduate scholars at universities across the U.S. who demonstrated talent and commitment to advancing sustainable and ethical fashion.

Alumnae Highlights

As a result, Talitha Washington, Ph.D., C’96; Pia Wilson-Body, C’87; Andrea Lawrence, C’68; and Karina Liles, Ph.D., C’2007, continue to take aim at that scenario by pumping more diversity into the field and doing their part to close the gap.
