The Atlanta University Center (AUC) Pre-Freshman Experience (PFx) virtual summer program offers incoming AUC students a chance to engage in data science before the start of their first year.

Throughout the one-week program, students will explore applications of data science and learn about different career opportunities. The program will provide an immersive experience in a data science project with a college professor and research mentors. Students will engage in excellent networking opportunities with data science professionals as well as with students from across the AUC.

This one-week virtual program exposes incoming AUC freshmen to data science opportunities and how to use data on issues affecting Black America.

This year’s theme, “Keeping Communities Safe Through Data,” will incorporate research topics related to current real-world problems related to cybersecurity such as reducing crime, human exploitation, hacking or phishing scams, cyber theft, health information systems and devices, and personal data sharing.

The program will run from Monday, July 18 to Friday, July 22. For more information, visit the Atlanta University Center Consortium online.

Miriam Olajide, C'2024, a third-year health sciences major, will appear on "Wheel of Fortune" on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 7 p.m. EST, on NBC.

"I submitted an 'about me' video on the website, and about a year and a half later, they contacted me for a virtual audition," said Olajide. "I was ecstatic that I was one step closer to possibly going on one of my favorite game shows."

An Atlanta native, Olajide is a Bonner scholar and serves as the Bonner congress representative. She also serves as the co-secretary for the National Society of Leadership and Success, as well as the community service director for the pre-alumnae council.

"I was very excited!" added Olajide, who earned a full-tuition paid scholarship to attend Spelman. "To my surprise, [the wheel] is heavier than I expected."

The Estee Lauder Companies (ELC) and National Alumnae Association of Spelman College (NAASC) recently announced a partnership to increase hires in the beauty industry through dynamic programming, panel discussions, and networking opportunities.

The new initiative, entitled "Let's Talk Beauty: ELC x NAASC," launched virtually in May.

This dynamic program allows Spelman alumnae to engage in candid career conversations with ELC leaders on topics, including how to transition into the beauty business, career opportunities, and navigating the beauty industry as a woman of color.

"I am really excited about the opportunity to partner with The Estee Lauder Companies; women of color have had an interesting history with the beauty industry, and this is a chance to shift the future of that narrative," said Stacey Frazier, C'99, President of the New York Chapter of the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College (NY-NAASC). "I look forward to the future events that we are planning to connect Spelman Alumnae to ELC."
