'Tis the season for an annual celebration of faith and grace through song. For nearly a century, the Atlanta University community has gathered to enjoy the radiant voices of the Spelman College and Morehouse College Glee Clubs.

This year a pre-recorded 95th Annual Spelman-Morehouse Christmas Carol Concert will premiere on Spelman.edu and the Spelman Facebook and YouTube channels at 7:30 p.m. EST, Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021.

"After nearly two years of navigating a new normal through this COVID-19 pandemic, it was my hope – and the hope of our Spelman family – that we would be able to gather in sisterhood for our Christmas Carol concert," said Valentine Williamson, C'2013, Glee Club program coordinator. "However, as the pandemic continues, we must adhere to the health and safety protocols that limit the gathering of large crowds on our beloved campus."

The community is encouraged to tune-in virtually, and enjoy favorites like the Morehouse College Glee Club’s popular rendition of "Betelehemu" and the Spelman College Glee Club’s "We Are Christmas" and "Glory to God," arranged by Kevin Johnson, D.M.A., associate professor and Spelman Glee Club director.

Registration is now open for Wintermester, an opportunity for students to earn credit between the end of the fall semester and the beginning of the spring semester.

Classes will run from Dec. 13, 2021, through Jan. 8, 2022.

Students can get a head start on classes for the spring or learn a new discipline like project management, said Yan Xu, Ph.D., PMP, eSpelman online program director and associate professor of history.

Xu recently developed two innovative courses that will enable Atlanta University Center students to become proficient in project management.

"It is my passion to help minority, women, and working adult students develop project management skills that enhance their career and life goals," Dr. Xu shared.

Xu will teach Project Management Fundamentals and Techniques and Communication and Problem-Solving in Project Management.

There are no pre-requisites and scholarships are available for Spelman students
Registration is open to current Spelman students, as well as those in the Atlanta University Center Consortium.

Give a Gift to Support
Spelman Students

The Student Support Fund assists Spelman scholars by providing financial support when they need assistance with unexpected, unforeseen and unavoidable emergency expenses such as housing support and other necessary needs.

With the help of the community Spelman will continue to secure funds to provide emergency assistance and support to ensure the well-being of our students.

"Our students greatly appreciate the contributions from alumnae who give generously in the spirit of Sisterhood and generous friends of the College who help them cross the finish line to achieve a Spelman College degree," said Jessie Brooks, senior vice president of Institutional Advancement.

No gift is too small. To make a contribution visit the Spelman Support Fund online.

Entrepreneur Keeana Saxon, C'99, founder of Kidogo Productions, recently launched kidogo.tv, an online video and interactive game service designed for Black preschoolers.

The passion behind Kidogo, which means "little" in Swahili, grew as Saxon searched for diverse, multicultural online content for her own pre-schooler—and came up empty-handed.

"Only 5.6% of U.S. animation features Black characters," said Saxon. "Furthermore, when we do see Black characters, we are often silent, silly, off-to-the-side or bad."

"On Kidogo.tv, Black children are celebrated, not misrepresented, centered or marginalized," Saxon said.
