Welcome, Dr.
Jones! Briona Simone Jones, Ph.D., was recently appointed Spelman College’s second Audre Lorde Visiting Professor of Queer Studies. This role marks the first endowed professorship in queer studies at a Historically Black College or University.
Before joining Spelman, Dr. Jones was an assistant professor in the University of Connecticut’s Department of English, focusing on women’s, gender and sexuality studies.
Tomorrow! The Center for Black Entrepreneurship (CBE) is hosting The Black Entrepreneurship Research Symposium tomorrow, Wednesday,
November 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Morehouse College.
The Black Entrepreneurship Research Symposium will showcase cutting-edge research and groundbreaking insights into Black entrepreneurship from the inaugural cohort of CBE Research Fellows. The symposium will also offer a first look at the real world impact of the CBE’s innovative research partnership with the Black Wealth Data Center, powered by Bloomberg Philanthropies.
Need a passport?The AUC and the Atlanta Passport Agency are hosting AUC Passport Day tomorrow, Wednesday, November 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Morehouse College's Kilgore Plaza and Atrium.
This event is open to attendees planning to apply for a passport or to renew a passport. The cost is $165 for adults, $135 for minors under age 16 and $130 for adults renewing an existing passport. No appointment is necessary, but attendees must have acceptable passport photos to apply.
Mark your calendars! As the oldest collegiate choir of African American women in the United States, the Spelman College Glee Club invites you to celebrate its 100 year anniversary and the 98th Annual Christmas Carol Concert presented with the Morehouse College Glee Club.
Each performance is free and open to the public. Spelman will host two concerts at Sisters Chapel, beginning with "A Taste of Christmas" – a one-hour sampling of favorites from the 98th Annual Spelman & Morehouse Christmas Carol Concert – on December 3, at 11:00 a.m.
On Friday,
December 6, at 7:30 p.m., Morehouse College will host a Christmas Carol Concert performance in the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel.
Spelman will host a Christmas Carol Concert performance on Saturday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Sisters Chapel.
On Sunday, December 8, Morehouse College will host the final Christmas Carol Concert performance at 6 p.m. in the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel.
Traditionally marking the official start of the Christmas season for Atlanta residents, these glee clubs will perform together (and individually) featuring traditional carols and
contemporary-style interpretations of various holiday music.

In addition, there will be a fun fact or myth session with prize giveaways and a panel discussion centered around navigating personal finances. Students will also have the opportunity to get their FICO score for free plus free Equifax credit monitoring and a free Equifax credit report every month with no payment required.
This event is open to all Atlanta University Center students. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The program is open to students of all academic majors and includes a competitive
stipend, housing in the Atlanta University Center (AUC), a meal plan and a fully funded trip to Washington D.C.
To apply, scholars must be a current Sophomore or Junior and maintain a GPA of 2.8 or higher.
The deadline for submission is Monday, December 16, 2024.
Alumnae Highlights
Alumna Raavin Evans, C'2012, was recently highlighted by the Greater Shreveport Chamber’s Young Professional Initiative as one of the region's 40 most accomplished young professionals.
Evans currently serves as the director of community impact for United Way of Northwest Louisiana and shapes and executes a community impact agenda across 10 parishes.
Current Spelman College employees are eligible to receive a $300.00 referral bonus (less applicable taxes) when referring an applicant who is hired and successfully completes the 90-day probationary period.
