Spelman College’s SpelREADS program has adopted innovative strategies to increase the College’s impact on academic success within local K-12 schools and the wider community.
Under the leadership of Jilo Tisdale, director of the Bonner Office of Civic Engagement and Co-Curricular Programs (Bonner Office), SpelREADS has grown into a powerful resource, demonstrating Spelman’s role as a champion of educational excellence.
Mark your calendars! The Spelman College Department of Music is pleased to present the Jazz Duo Concert on Friday, February 28, at noon in the Mary Schmidt Campbell Center for Innovation & the Arts Room 200.
The concert will feature the talents of Penelope Williams on piano and Jacqueline Pickett on bass.
This event is open to the Spelman College and Atlanta University Center community only.
Sowell is an artist, educator, arts administrator and activist who most recently served as the director of the School of Theatre at the University of North Carolina Greensboro for four and a half years.
Seven graduating seniors — Faith J. Allen, Kourtney M. Flowers, Shadavia Burnett, Nosharai Harris, Naryah Ellis and Kayla Brown and Leilani Linton-Williamson— have accepted the call to deliver senior sermons as part of Sisters Chapel’s Senior Expressions series this spring semester.
Hailing from various academic disciplines, each of the students gets the opportunity to share a unique perspective, skill and gift in worship while showcasing their spiritual maturity and leadership.
All Sunday services will take place at 1 p.m. in Sisters Chapel.

Apply today! The Spelman Innovation Team is excited to announce the 2025 HBCU Game Jam happening Friday, March 28 - Sunday, March 30, 2025!
The 2025 HBCU Game Jam will host HBCUs from all over the country to compete in teams of four building their own video games to win industry-sponsored prizes.
This will be a 24 hour hackathon, providing the opportunity to introduce students to the game development process, collaborate and network with students and industry mentors.
There will be game development workshops on Friday to prepare students for the competition. Beginners are not only welcome but encouraged! All students are required to speak to a faculty advisor before applying.
Congratulations, Walkitria! Alumna Walkitria Smith, M.D., C'2005, was recently named one of The Top 25 Women Chief Digital Officers of 2025 by Women We Admire.
Dr. Smith currently serves as the Chief Digital Officer of Morehouse School of Medicine. She first joined the team in 2018 as medical director of telemedicine.
