Congratulations, Spelmanites! Spelman College students Victoria Cain, C’2026, Makhi Frempong, C’2026, Olivia Rivera-Spann, C’2026 and Symone Thompson, C’2027, took home the first place $1 million grand prize at the Goldman Sachs Market Madness Competition on April 22, 2024. Spelman has won the competition three times in four years.

Actress, director and executive producer Angela Bassett will be the keynote speaker for Spelman College’s 137th Commencement Ceremony, on May 19, and receive a Doctor of Fine Arts honorary degree. The College will also award a Doctor of Laws honorary degree to Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and a National Community Service Award to Atlanta Journalist Rose Scott. The Reverend Dr. Yvette Flunder will address graduates during the Baccalaureate Ceremony on May 18.

You're invited! Spelman College students, faculty and staff are invited to Royal Inspiration, the closing concert for the African dance classes and the West African Rhythms & Dances class On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 4 p.m. in Sisters Chapel.

The concert will include works honoring historical figures from Africa and the African Diaspora, monologues performed by students in Acting for the Non-Major, Soaring High and more.

Student Highlights
Attention, on-campus residents! All Spelman College residence halls will close on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Students participating in school-sponsored or departmental activities taking place after May 11 must submit a Late Stay Request form via Etrieve by 12 p.m. today, Tuesday, April 30, 2024. No students are permitted to remain on campus beyond 12 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024.

Alumnae Highlights
Congratulations, Benika! Spelman College alumna Benika Dixon, DrPH, C'2005, an assistant professor at Texas A&M University School of Public Health, has been named a Kavli Fellow by the National Academy of Sciences.
