Spelman College Board of Trustees member Sherina Maye Edwards, C'2005, currently serves as the Chair of the United Negro College Fund's 25th Black & White Ball the organization's premier fundraising event supporting scholarships for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Also a Spelman alumna, Edwards exemplifies UNCF’s mission to invest in better futures through education. Her leadership and personal journey reflect the transformative impact of HBCUs and underscore the importance of continuing to support students in achieving college success.

Spelman is making global moves! This summer, many of our students are participating in transformative study abroad experiences. Recently, 21 Spelmanites embarked on a two-week cultural engagement program in Legon, Ghana, where they studied at the University of Ghana with CIEE Legon.

The students were accompanied by faculty members Abayomi Ola, Ph.D. and Cocoa Williams. From classroom learning to cultural immersion, our students are broadening their horizons and deepening their global understanding.

Well done, Niyoka! Alumna Niyoka McCoy, C'2003, Stride’s Chief Learning Officer, was recently named one of the Top 25 Women Chief Learning Officers of 2025 by Women We Admire.

McCoy has decades of experience building strong academic programs, driving initiatives that promote academic equity and creating professional development opportunities for teachers and school leaders.

A published author and former teacher, McCoy earned a bachelor’s degree from Spelman College.
