Spelpreneur recently hosted its annual Pitch Night of the 10-day Startup Competition.

Eleven student teams gathered in the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby, Ed.D., Auditorium to participate in an exciting Shark Tank-style pitch night where they presented bold business ideas aimed at solving real-world problems. Teams competed for a chance to win $8,000 in stipends.

Spelman College is offering a new course focused on maternal and child health through a lens that centers on the Black experience. Dr. Shantesica Gilliam, assistant professor of environmental and health sciences, launched the course, titled Foundations of Maternal and Child Health: Prioritizing the Black Body, this spring.

What a win! Spelman College, in partnership with dining partner Bon Appétit, has been recognized with the esteemed Farmer Champion Award by Georgia Organics, celebrating its unwavering commitment to strengthening local food systems and supporting sustainable agriculture.

The award was presented in conjunction with the SOWTH Conference, a convening of more than 1,400 farmers and leaders dedicated to building a strong agricultural movement across the South.

The Spelman Innovation Team is excited to announce the 2025 HBCU Game Jam happening Friday, March 28 - Sunday, March 30, 2025!

The 2025 HBCU Game Jam will host HBCUs from all over the country to compete in teams of four building their own video games to win industry-sponsored prizes.

This will be a 24-hour hackathon, providing the opportunity to introduce students to the game development process, collaborate and network with students and industry mentors.

There will be game development workshops on Friday to prepare students for the competition. Beginners are not only welcome but encouraged! All students are required to speak to a faculty advisor before applying.

Alumnae Highlights

Congratulations, Sara! Alumna Sara Reynolds Green, C'73, was recently recognized by Bon Appétit for her work with students ages 10 to 17 who attend Marshview Community Organic Farm’s Young Farmers and Chefs of the Lowcountry program in South Carolina.

Green and her chef-hunter husband, Bill Green, teach the students farming basics on her family land.
