Beverly Guy-Sheftall, Ph.D., C'66, founding director of the Women's Research and Resource Center and Anna Julia Cooper Professor of Women’s Studies at Spelman College, was recently featured on an episode of On Today with Dr. Kaye: Freedom Radio 2024.
During the interview with host Dr. Karsonya "Kaye: Wise Whitehead, Dr. Guy-Sheftall discussed the current momentum behind Kamala Harris announcing her bid for president and what it will mean for a woman of color to become the first female president of the United States.
Congratulations, Jasmine! Spelman College senior Jasmine Mann was recently selected to participate in the U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship Program.
Mann was selected from over 5,000 applicants for the CLS program and is currently studying Russian and Kyrgyz, the local language in Bishkek. As part of the program, she is undergoing intensive language instruction and cultural enrichment experiences, including 15 hours a week of Russian language instruction at the American University of Central
Asia, daily practice with her designated language partner and immersive learning with her host family, who she will live with for the duration of the eight-week program.

Mark your calendars! From August 23 through December 7, 2024, Spelman College Museum of Fine Art presents Ming Smith: Feeling the Future —the first solo exhibition of photographer Ming Smith in Atlanta and at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).
This exhibition is a selection of Ming Smith's work from the 1970s to the present and presents photographs that are in conversation with each other across time and space and showcases Smith’s expansive use of lens-based media.
Great work, Bongeka! Spelman College alumna Bongeka Zuma, M.D., C'2016, is determined to provide better care for people in her tiny rural hometown of Nkwezela, South Africa.
Zuma recently began her internal medicine residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The program offers rotations in Africa, so she is planning to learn more about health care on her home continent in hopes of offering the people of her hometown quality health care one day soon.
Current Spelman College employees are eligible to receive a $300.00 referral bonus (less applicable taxes) when referring an applicant who is hired and successfully completes the 90-day probationary period.
