As Spelman transitions from an in-person to a remote learning environment, the College has created a student emergency fund to ensure the well-being of those in need of emergency assistance and support. Spelman announced Thursday, March 12, that the College, along with the other schools within the Atlanta University Center Consortium, are moving to a virtual academic environment for the remainder of the semester. Classes begin Monday, March 23. In the meantime, students have until Saturday, March 21 at 9 p.m. to collect their belongings and move out of their residence halls. The student emergency fund hopes to provide relief for those students impacted the hardest during the transition. Please continue to visit Spelman's Coronavirus Update page on Spelman.edu.
Campus Highlights
Members of the Spelman community are mourning the loss of 18-year-old Lauren Stephens, C’2023. The Savannah, Georgia native died after a hard-fought battle against cancer on Feb. 23. For those who knew her, Stephens was a bright light that never allowed her situation to cast a dark cloud over those she encountered. "She was a quiet force, one that attracted goodness, kindness and joy, and when she did not find those gifts, she gave them freely and happily," said Geneva Baxter, Ph.D., associate dean of undergraduate studies. "Lauren was the embodiment of love and joy, and she helped us to raise our standards by choosing to make a positive difference in the lives of others."
