Student Highlights

Congratulations, Olivia! Olivia Gray, C'2027, was recently selected by the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) as an inaugural recipient of its new Collegiate Career Accelerator program.

As a participant, Gray will receive a $5,000 stipend to support the advancement of her professional journey and will attend 10 change labs, two virtual conferences on social justice and adulting and two in-person touchpoints. The program will run from August 2024 through April 2025.

Today! The Disney On the Yard Experience will be held today, Tuesday, August 27, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the AUC Woodruff Library.

This event will feature music, an appearance by Mickey Mouse and a recruiting experience with Disney, ESPN and other affiliated brands to greet students and tell them more about their opportunities for employment for HBCU students.

Mark your calendars! The Brookings Institution and Spelman College will convene on September 9-10, 2024 in the Rockefeller Fine Arts Building to present The promise and perils of AI: Issues at stake in the 2024 election.

This two-day event will explore the issues policymakers will confront with the increasing adoption and implementation of AI and what policies or guardrails will be needed to seize upon its opportunities while mitigating its risks.

Alumnae Highlights

Congratulations, Kennedy! Spelman College alumna Kennedy Dunning, C'2023, was recently named one of 25 finalists for the 2024 HBCU Film Invitational for her film "How Hair You."

Produced without a crew during the COVID-19 pandemic, the eight-minute documentary about how body hair became a point of shame in the United States put Dunning in the roles of director, editor, camera operator and more.
