A very special visit! U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona toured Spelman College on July 17 as part of his visit to Atlanta to speak with Historically Black Colleges and University (HBCU) presidents and recent student loan relief borrowers.
During his visit to Spelman, Cardona toured the campus and met with Spelman College leaders, current and incoming students in order to gain insight on supporting women of color in higher education through means of strengthening equity initiatives and career readiness programs.
Way to go, Dr. Dickens! Along with Dionne Stephens, Ph.D., professor of psychology at Florida International University, Spelman College alumna and associate professor of psychology Danielle Dickens, Ph.D., C’2009, co-wrote the recently published The Psychology of Black Womanhood — "the first textbook to provide an authoritative, jargon-free, affordable and holistic exploration of the sociohistorical and psychological experiences of Black girls and women in the United States, while discussing the intersection of their identities," according to publishing company Rowman & Littlefield.
Centering the psychological experiences and theories of Black womanhood, the text is designed as a course textbook for undergraduate and master’s level students in psychology.
Mark your calendars! From August 23 through December 7, 2024, Spelman College Museum of Fine Art presents Ming Smith: Feeling the Future —the first solo exhibition of photographer Ming Smith in Atlanta and at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).
This exhibition is a selection of Ming Smith's work from the 1970s to the present and presents photographs that are in conversation with each other across time and space and showcases Smith’s expansive use of lens-based media.
Applications close today! Apply today to participate in Spelman’s new Big/Little Sister Program, which is open to all incoming and current students and meant to provide guidance, mentorship and camaraderie for first-year students.
