Spelman College President Helene Gayle recently penned an op-ed in the Atlanta Journal Constitution speaking to the importance of investing in Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and emphasizing the reality that many HBCU students leave with substantial debt upon completing their degree.

Spelman Wellness Center receives a great gift!
Last week, the Spelman College Wellness Center team received a $110,000 philanthropic gift from alumna Dr. Wyndolyn Crutchfield Bell, M.D., C'74, to support the return of the Jaguar and intramural sports.

Dr. Bell made the generous gift in honor of her beloved mother, Anita Watkins Crutchfield, who was an ardent Historically Black College and University advocate and sports fanatic, a Tennessee State University graduate, health and physical education teacher, majorette and swimming coach and multi-sport athlete.

On Monday, April 22, 2024, Spelman College welcomed award-winning journalist Errin Haines, editor-at-large and one of the founders of news publication The 19th, for a special edition of the College’s Courageous Conversations series titled "Power of the Black Woman Vote," powered by UPS.

President Helene Gayle and Director of Spelman’s Social Justice Fellows Program Dr. Cynthia Spence engaged Haines in a powerful dialogue, where they discussed the upcoming 2024 presidential election, the importance of Black women’s suffrage and the biggest issues on the ballot.
