Dear Spelman Community,

We continue to stand with Clark Atlanta University (CAU) and the entire Atlanta University Center (AUC) community in mourning the loss of CAU sophomore Jatonne Sterling on February 28.

We recently learned that the Atlanta Police Department (APD) arrested 25-year-old Keontay Holliman-Peoples and charged him with multiple counts including felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and conspiracy to commit a felony. APD reported that Mr. Sterling and Mr. Holliman-Peoples knew each and this, therefore, was a targeted incident.

While incidents of this magnitude may happen on one campus, as a community, there is impact across the entire AUC impact that brings us closer together for the safety and wellness of our community. We are continuing to work with local law enforcement and our AUC neighbors to implement measures to improve safety across our community, including additional safety training for our campus community, increased patrolling, improved camera surveillance, and stronger emergency communications coordination on-campus and across the AUC among other actions. Please remember, if you see something, say something by contacting our Public Safety team at 404-525-6401.

As you depart campus for Spring Break, I hope you are able to fully enjoy this time with your family and friends.

Sincerely,

Dr. Darryl Holloman
