Dear faculty and staff,

It is my pleasure to announce that Aditi Pai, Ph.D., has agreed to serve as interim vice provost, overseeing faculty affairs such as faculty human resources and faculty development.

Dr. Pai joined Spelman College in 2006 as a faculty member in the Biology Department. She earned tenure in 2011 and was promoted to full professor in 2020. As a scholar-teacher her research focuses on behavioral evolution and science education. To date, she has authored 36 publications and presented more than 100 talks at national conferences. Her research lab trained more than 54 Spelman STEM majors -- an outstanding achievement.

From early in her time at Spelman, Dr. Pai has participated in faculty governance. She has served on several standing committees on campus such as Faculty Council and the Curriculum Committee. Notably, she was one of the founders of the Junior Faculty Committee and served as its first chair (2008-2011). In addition, she has served in various other leadership roles at Spelman, including vice chair of the Biology Department, the Ed Tech committee chair, and more recently as co-director/director of the Teaching Resource and Research Center (2014-present).

Dr. Pai and the TRRC team have continually expanded programing based on stakeholder input; created partnerships on campus to offer collaborative workshops; started a social media presence on TRRC events and pioneered innovative pedagogical models such as the National Science Foundation funded “Genetics and Genealogy Project,” a companion to the Finding Your Roots curriculum based on Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr.’s acclaimed PBS documentary series of the same name.

Dr. Pai’s work in the areas of faculty development at the helm of the TRRC, as well as her varied service in faculty governance, give her a breadth and depth of knowledge that make her ideally suited to step into the role as interim vice provost.

The excellent work of the TRRC will be overseen by Karen Brakke, Ph.D., professor of psychology, who will serve as the new TRRC co-director. Dr. Brakke is a distinguished scholar with an outstanding record in faculty pedagogy and professional development.

Please join me in offering congratulations to both of our colleagues as they take on new roles at the College.

Best regards,

Dolores Bradley Brennan, Ph.D.
