We are humbled, honored, and excited to be the recipient of a historic $100 million donation from philanthropist, businesswoman, and longtime Spelman trustee Ronda Strykerand her husband, William Johnston. Their gift is not only the largest in our history, it is the largest individual donation ever given to an HBCU, and larger than most gifts to higher educational
institutions in America. We are delighted to share this news now, as 2024 marks 100 years since Spelman Baptist Seminary became Spelman College, a pivotal and meaningful time in our school’s history. $75 million of the $100 million will go to endowed student scholarships, helping Spelman College continue to attract the best and brightest students while reducing any financial barriers that prevent qualified students from enrolling or remaining enrolled. The remaining $25 million will be used to develop an academic focus on public policy and democracy, improve student housing, and provide flexible funding to meet critical strategic needs. Today, we are
celebrating news of this momentous gift in several ways:

gift will only help our beloved college continue to excel as one of the best schools in the country.
