President Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D., has accepted my recommendation to expand the Pass/Fail option for spring semester 2020, based on a poll of Spelman’s faculty.
With the leadership of the Faculty Council, and the special help of Dr. Tiffany Oliver, the faculty were polled about expanding the P/F option. Due to the disruptive effects of the COVID-19 crisis, a clear majority of Spelman faculty approve giving students the power to elect to be graded P/F in any of their courses this semester, including major courses, and that students be given until the last day of classes to make that election.
This will not effect a permanent change to Spelman's normal grading policy. It will control this semester only, unless the faculty
votes at some later time to extend that change.
Students with plans to apply to graduate or professional school after graduation will be advised to discuss this option with their major adviser.
