Friends,

Please join me in congratulating our very own Joyce E. Davis, Spelman’s director of marketing and communications, for her win of the 2020 Women of Color Initiative Staff Impact Award!

The award is one of five created by WOCI Atlanta Collaborative in Higher Education, a city-wide strategic partnership between Spelman College’s Student Success Program, Georgia Tech’s Office of Minority Education and Women’s Resource Center, Emory University’s Center for Women and Office of Racial and Cultural Engagement and STEM Atlanta Women, Inc.

We are so delighted that a member of the Spelman team has been recognized for her outstanding work on behalf of the College and for the exemplary leadership role, not only for her terrific communications team, but throughout the College. Who among us has not called on Joyce and her team to churn out an attractive flyer, communicate about our initiatives and pride points, or to assist with a real or virtual event.

Effective and timely communications have been essential especially during these times of challenge. Spelman has been blessed with a devoted team of communicators who carry our message on all platforms and we are grateful now that the world acknowledges them!
We take this opportunity to congratulate as well four Spelman sophomores, Alexis Parker, Erin Ojeda, Ireland Battle and Alondra Stafford for their special 2020 WOCI Student Group Impact recognition. Their award was for giving voice to gender and racial inequalities in the field of artificial intelligence.

As difficult as these times may be, we are buoyed by the resilience and determination of our Spelman students and staff members who continue to provide exceptional service for their school and their communities.

Onward,
Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D.
President, Spelman College
