July 31, 2023Dear Spelman Community, We hope that you had a great summer, and we look forward to welcoming you for the 2023-2024 academic year. As we approach the start of the fall
semester, we want to share important health and safety protocols. PRE-ARRRIVAL PRECAUTIONS As a precaution, students, faculty and staff with the means to do so
are encouraged to take a COVID-19 self-test before arrival. If you experience COVID-19 symptoms or test positive, please delay your arrival until you have recovered and received a negative self-test. No pre-arrival test result submission is required. COVID-19 VACCINATION Students, faculty, and staff are required to be up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations (i.e. received full vaccination and a booster or a single dose of a bivalent COVID-19 vaccine). Individuals with a documented religious or medical exemption are waived from the vaccination requirement. Community members who have previously submitted proof of vaccination or vaccination exemption do not need to resubmit. You may use the Etrieve- Campus Documentation Form to keep your vaccination or exemption records up to date.
To log into Etrieve, enter your Spelman ID and password, and click the OneSpelman icon on the login page. RESIDENTIAL ISOLATION IN PLACE PROTOCOL We will transition to the Atlanta University Center Consortium (AUCC) COVID-19 Residential Isolation in Place protocol for students. The isolation in place model is currently used by many colleges and universities across the country and endorsed by the American College Health Association (ACHA) as an alternative isolation accommodation for congregate housing settings. Under this protocol, when unable to isolate off campus, a residential student who tests positive for COVID-19 will isolate in their own room/suite (even though their roommate(s) may be negative for COVID-19). As we begin this protocol, all students are encouraged to talk to their parents and roommates to discuss a plan in case of a positive COVID-19 test. Carefully review the Residential Isolation in Place Protocol, which contains important instructions in the event of a positive COVID-19 test for both the student and roommate. FREE PREVENTATIVE CARE KITS The College will continue to provide free access to masks, hand sanitizers and COVID-19 self-test kits to any student, faculty or staff. To pick up a free wellness kit, contact the COVID-19 Operations Team at 404-270-5407, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students can also access free kits from the MacVicar Students Health Services Lobby. COVID-19 ISOLATION PROTOCOL If you test positive for COVID-19: - Isolate for a minimum of five (5) days. (Day 1 is the first full day following the day you tested positive). Students must notify Student Health Services at 404-270-5249. Commuter students isolate off campus. Residential students isolate in place.
- If fever-free for 24 hours and symptoms have improved, take a COVID-19 self-test on day six (6). Students: if test is negative, submit results to Student Health Services for clearance to resume normal activities. Faculty and staff: end isolation if test is negative.
- If a test result is positive, continue to isolate until a negative COVID-19 self-test result is received or up to 10 days. Wear a KN95 mask when around others for 10 days.
COVID-19 EXPOSURE GUIDANCE If you are exposed to someone who tested positive: - Take a COVID-19 self-test on day one (1) and day five (5) following your exposure.
- If you test positive or experience symptoms consistent with COVID-19, follow the isolation protocol.
- If
you test negative, continue normal activity. Wear a KN95 mask for ten (10) days from the date of exposure when around others. If you have questions regarding exposure, contact COVID-19 Operations at 404-270-5407.
For more in-depth information about COVID-19 health and safety please review Spelman COVID-19 Updates and refer to the Spelman COVID-19 Path Forward Page. Please continue to take the necessary steps to keep yourself and our community safe. Wishing you a happy and healthy academic year ahead.
Kind Regards,
