First, greatest thanks to all of you for your steadfast commitment to our health and safety protocols. We have endured an unprecedented two-and-a half years and stayed resilient throughout this pandemic. While we cannot say that this pandemic is over, we are seeing clear and convincing evidence that our robust mitigating strategies have
yielded superb outcomes. The AUCC has maintained among the lowest infection rates for COVID-19 and among the highest COVID-19 vaccination rates of any college or university campus in the nation. In our county and surrounding areas, hospitalization and deaths due to COVID-19 are low.
We want to inform you of a recent change in the masking policy of our AUCC partners. On October 20, 2022, on the campuses of Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College and Morehouse School of Medicine, indoor masking is now optional except in campus healthcare settings.
However, as we discussed this on campus it was clear that many within our community, especially those in often close, prolonged in-person contact, preferred to
maintain the highest levels of prevention, especially as we enter the heightened season of flu and respiratory viruses. Given that, we will continue to extend our indoor masking advisory through the remainder of the fall semester. We also appreciate small gatherings and personal offices, likely don’t pose the same risks as other settings such as classrooms. So people should make responsible decisions in lower risk settings about masking, taking others level of comfort and safety into consideration. Our AUCC partners are aware of this decision and will continue to follow our indoor masking advisory when attending classes or in group settings on our campus. We will continue to monitor guidance from the CDC and public health authorities and plan to revisit our indoor masking policy before the start of the Spring Semester.
For the remainder of the semester, we will continue our testing protocol of randomized Antigen and PCR testing for employees and students twice a month. Our COVID-19 operations team and the AUCC epidemiologist will continue to closely monitor the incidences of COVID-19 across the campus. At this time, we strongly encourage all community members to get the new bivalent booster when eligible, as well as the flu shot, as an extra layer of protection.
