Dear Parents and Spelmanites,

Congratulations on completing the Spring 2020 semester. We have accomplished so much together and are grateful for your fortitude and understanding. You are truly undaunted!

You have heard from us that the College would consider a strategy to refund mandatory fees. Thank you for your patience as we processed and disseminated room and board refunds and CARES Act student emergency grants. Although the College has provided many services which mandatory fees support virtually, we acknowledge that unfortunately, it is impossible to completely mimic the face-to-face experience. In consideration of this fact, we are happy to report that the College will issue a pro-rated refund of select mandatory fees for all full time students.

2. How will Spelman distribute the funds

The College will provide a pro-rated refund for mandatory fees that are most closely tied to campus activities for the period March 22 to May 9, 2020. These fees include the College Center, Activities, Wellness, Cultural, Sustainability as well as a partial Library fee. All other mandatory fees continued to support related virtual activities. This results in a $350 refund for each student.

The pro-rated amount will be credited to your student account. If the adjustment results in a credit balance on the student account, students will receive a refund. All credit balances created as a result of the adjustments will be refunded by June 30, 2020. All refunds will be mailed to the student or parent address on file unless the student has direct deposit. If you prefer that your refund be applied to the Fall 2021 academic semester fee assessment, please e-mail studentaccount@spelman.edu. For students who would like to enroll in direct deposit, please log into our payment portal to enter your banking information.
