January 30, 2022

Dear Spelman Staff,

We thank you for your patience as we continue to navigate the evolving pandemic. As we prepare to welcome everyone back to campus on Monday,  Jan. 31, please take note of a few reminders:

Though everyone is required to submit a negative PCR test prior to arrival, we recognize that delays in processing times at testing locations may affect your ability to access your test results in the 5-day time frame, and that face to face classes begin tomorrow.

Therefore, you may access campus pending your submission of the required pre-arrival PCR test. If you come to campus without the required PCR test, please take your weekly rapid test on Monday, Jan. 31, 2022. Testing occurs in the Suites Dining Hall from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Additionally, remember to wear your mask in all spaces throughout the campus.

As a reminder, due to delays in the ordering and processing of the home PCR kits through the Our Community Healthcare System (getcovidsafe.com) program, it is no longer mandatory to use that website for the required pre-arrival testing. We ask that you complete PCR testing from an outside source: pharmacy, clinic, mobile testing unit, or medical provider as soon as possible.

Personal responsibility: If you are experiencing any symptoms, please do not come to campus. Symptoms of COVID-19 include i.e.: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. Please notify your department/program Chair if you are unable to teach your class due to illness.

Beginning on Monday, Jan. 31, the testing cadence for everyone including faculty, staff and students will continue as last semester.

The prescribed testing cadence is as follows:

Once weekly rapid testing for vaccinated: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Beverly Daniel Tatum Suites Dining Hall

Twice weekly rapid testing for unvaccinated with a waiver: Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5pm. Beverly Daniel Tatum Suites Private Dining Room

Once weekly random PCR testing of only selected faculty, staff and students: Wednesday only, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Beverly Daniel Tatum Suites Dining Hall

Finally, booster vaccination, masking, and social distancing continue to be our best strategies to fight the virus and will be required for the entire Spelman community.

Enjoy your evening,
