Greetings Spelman community,

In acknowledgment of Juneteenth, Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D., president of Spelman College, will lead a virtual fireside chat on the significance of the annual holiday.

Sponsored by Leadership Solutions, "What Juneteenth Means to Me, to the African American Community, and to all Americans," will take place at 11 a.m. EDT, on Friday, June 18.

The 10th president of Spelman, Dr. Campbell is among the country’s most renowned college and university presidents. A scholar, educator, leader and visionary, she has lectured extensively on artistic expression and the impact of Black culture on American culture, history, ethics and politics.

In 2009, President Barack Obama appointed Dr. Campbell vice-chair of the President’s Committee in the Arts and Humanities. She retired from her position as dean of the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University a year before coming to Spelman as president.

Registration is required to attend the fireside chat and open to members of the community with a Spelman.edu email address.
