Dear Spelman Community,

We hope that your fall semester is off to a great start. Please take note of important COVID-19 health and safety updates:

COVID-19 Testing Updates

We will no longer require unvaccinated community members to perform mandatory weekly self-tests.

The updated testing cadence for the Fall 2022 Semester is as follows:

Random Community Testing (every other week, twice a month): Randomly selected vaccinated and unvaccinated community members (students, faculty, and staff) who are selected to participate in the community testing will receive an email notification from Spelman COVID-19 Operations with specific testing information. This randomized testing occurs in the BDT Suites Private Dining Room.

We ask that all community members be personally responsible by self-monitoring for COVID-19 symptoms, not coming to campus if symptomatic or COVID-19 positive, and self-testing with an at-home rapid test as needed.

COVID-19 Exposure Guidance Updates

If you were exposed to COVID-19 or have been told by a healthcare provider or public health official that you were in close physical contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19, here are the steps you should take regardless of your vaccination status:

  • Do not need to quarantine and may continue normal activity if COVID-19 negative.
  • You must wear a KN95 mask for ten (10) days from the date of exposure.
  • You must take a rapid antigen COVID test on day one (1) and day five (5) following your exposure. You may pick up a supply of rapid at-home self-test kits in the BDT Suites Private Dining Room (Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).
  • If you test positive or experience symptoms consistent with COVID-19, you must follow the isolation protocol.

A huge thank you to each of you for all your efforts in keeping our community safe.

Kind Regards,

Yemi Brown, PharmD
Manager, COVID-19 Operations
