Dear Spelman Community,A week ago today, the Spelman College Community came together to begin four days of inspiring and uplifting inauguration events, which marked the official start of our journey together at Spelman. It is an honor to be endowed with the responsibility of leading the College as the 11th president and charting the course for the next chapter in Spelman’s history. Thank you to the Spelman Board of Trustees for putting your faith in me; my
trailblazing predecessors for paving the way; faculty, staff, students and alumnae; my family; distinguished guests; friends; supporters – and all who attended, whether in-person or online. I felt the warmth of your presence! I am also grateful to the faculty and staff who worked tirelessly to plan the inauguration events.As we move forward together with planning for and navigating the future, as I said in my remarks, I am here for the same reason this institution has always been here. To ensure there is a special place – that there will always be a special place – where a young Black woman with a dream of making the world better will be nurtured and affirmed, educated wholly, and encouraged to be and become her best and authentic self.
