Dear Spelman community,

Spelman College has spent 140 years providing stellar educational experiences for Black women who have become global change agents.

Today, I write to announce the launch of eSpelman, a transformative addition to the College that offers online access to higher learning and career enhancement for busy, working adults and, at the same time, will help bring new revenue to the College to provide expanded support for Spelman students.

Through eSpelman, the College will offer courses to those who are looking to advance their careers, elevate their expertise or explore new fields, and will do so in the context of conversations around race, class, gender, and social justice.

The certificates will be offered to working adult learners, of all genders, through two platforms: directly through eSpelman, or in collaboration with Guild Education, which partners with leading U.S. employers to offer education and upskilling as an employee benefit. Our partnership with Guild will connect eSpelman with some of the nation’s largest, forward-thinking employers, including Walmart.

Courses such as Orientation to Education - an introductory course launching this fall for those looking to pursue state teacher certification - will be available directly from eSpelman. Other classes including certificates in diversity, equity and inclusion and cosmetic sciences will come online in spring and fall 2022.

Information on how alumnae, faculty and staff can take advantage of the eSpelman certificate program will be forthcoming.
