Friends,

The Atlanta Police, along with the Atlanta Airport Bomb Squad, have completed a sweep of the campus. I watched as they entered each publicly accessible building and, some with canines, conducted a thorough sweep of the buildings. Watching them work was reassuring. They proceeded methodically through each building and swept the campus grounds.

As you know, classes for today have been canceled and the campus is closed to all visitors and vendors.

At the same time, please be aware that students, faculty and staff are now free to walk the campus, make use of the Wellness Center, visit the bookstore, the dining hall and other areas on campus. As well, please note that the services of the counseling center are available, should you find the need to seek their services, and Sisters Chapel is open for prayers and solace.

The campus will resume classes in person tomorrow and our opening convocation will proceed as planned on Thursday, Feb.10.

One word of caution. There have been any number of false rumors that have surfaced. These are troubling but not unexpected. We ask that you rely on the emails and updates that come from official Spelman channels.

With resolve,
Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D.
