Greetings Spelman community,
It is hard to believe that we are now more than halfway through the spring semester of 2021, and must now begin the journey toward planning for the fall.

We take this opportunity to provide a brief update regarding our path forward.

The Spelman College Path Forward Task Force has reconvened and, as before, three principles will guide their work:

  1. safeguarding the health and safety of our community,
  2. delivering an outstanding academic experience to each of our students,
  3. and ensuring the fiscal stability of the College.

With the increased availability of vaccinations and our successful experiences this semester operating in a low-density model, with some students back in our residence halls, we are hoping for a fall semester with in-person teaching and learning, provided public health conditions allow.

Eligible employees who expressed interest in receiving a vaccine should have received an email with instructions on how to schedule an appointment at Morehouse Healthcare at Lee Street, located at 455 Lee Street S.W., around the corner from Spelman's campus.

The Task Force expects to present its recommendations for the summer and fall to the Board of Trustees on Friday, April 23, and shortly after provide more details to the campus community.

We appreciate the work of the Task Force, and all of those who have supported our virtual and in-person experiences over the last year.

Sincerely,
Sharon Davies, JD
Provost & Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dawn Alston
CFO & Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs
